Christian Games and Stories from a Fantasy Realm
After the Great Rescue and the rising of the Celestial Peaks, the Rescuer established the Lightraider Order and commissioned its members as knights in his service. The order made the labyrinthine mountain fortress of Ras Telesar its home. Many now call the fortress Lightraider Academy. Lightraider Academy is the center of our Christian fantasy realm.
Lightraider Academy originated as DragonRaider Academy in the 1980s DragonRaid Adventure Learning System created by Dick Wulf. The discipleship system, an RPG hybrid with elements of choose-your-adventure, took place on the mythical continent of Talania. There, players met allegorical creatures and challenges that paralleled sin and real life. The imagined dangers compelled them to employ Scripture while grappling with the conflicting values of our world. It helped them discover how faith in Christ and His gifts of the fruit of the Spirit and the armor of God shape our lives and our eternity.
The 1980s DragonRaid system differs from popular role playing games. A misconception in the Christian gaming community is that DragonRaid was created as an alternative RPG for Christians. That was an idea promoted by a popular televangelist who targeted the company and got them shut down just before his fall from grace.
DragonRaid offered leaders a discipleship and Bible verse memory and application tool. What better way to accomplish this than through collaborative storytelling in a Christian fantasy setting? DragonRaid helped players mature in their day-to-day relationships with Christ, fellow believers, and non-Christians and equipped them to share the Gospel.
The nonprofit Courser Media now works to continue Dick Wulf’s efforts to provide discipleship tools through fun and engaging Christian fantasy games, family games, Bible study tools, and Christian fantasy young adult books. We have a lot in store for you. Our primary tool, the Lightraiders Adventure Bible System (aka Lightraiders) is an rpg-based discipleship curriculum.
