Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 — Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
In the Army, we have someone called a “Battle Buddy”. This buddy is a partner of the same gender who assists you both on and off the battlefield. Battle Buddies look out for each other, help each other follow the rules and stay out of trouble, and motivate and encourage each other.
The Bible encourages Christians to have a friend who helps keep us accountable in our Christian walk. We face many stressful and difficult moments daily in life. Satan loves to use these moments to sink his claws into us, so he can yank us off the straight and narrow path. The devil is always looking for new ways to tempt us, and he loves using our weak moments to his advantage. Having that “Battle Buddy” to assist you in your spiritual walk is essential. You are able to lift each other up, and when you are having moments of weakness, that friend can keep you accountable and encourage you to stay away from sin.
The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” The devil wants to devour Christians and make us ineffective in our mission of spreading the Gospel of Christ. When we face hard moments in life start to give into temptation, Satan is able to catch us in his jaws. A loving Christian friend—a Battle Buddy who can pull us out of the lion’s jaws—is an important ingredient in the Christian life.
Young men, pray that God will provide another Christian man to hold you accountable in your walk. Young women, pray that God will provide another Christian woman to hold you accountable in the same way. Once you find that person, help them as well. Do not allow the other person to carry the entire burden of accountability. This person needs you as much as you need them. This process of loving each other and helping each other walk in Christ also speaks volumes to the world. Jesus says in John 13:35, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Start praying and looking today for your spiritual Battle Buddy today. Together, we can spread Christ to the world, and help each other win this fight.
